Qigong means "internal energy training".
Qigong is an ancient Chinese Daoist discipline that utilizes stretching, self-massage, and breath training; its exercises and stillness meditations are mentioned in the oldest of Chinese writings. Benefits of qigong include improved health, prevention of illness, energetic vigor, longevity, and clarity of mind.
The Chinese character "Qi" means "vital breath" or "internal energy" that exists in all things. Qi is understood in the West as subtle electromagnetic energy. The character "Gong" means training or cultivation. Although most qigong encountered in the world is "outer" qigong, the qigong knowledge at the International Institute of Medical Qigong is both outer and "internal", or secret knowledge. So, for us, qigong means "internal energy training".
Medical qigong
Medical qigong applies the principles of internal energy training to focused, analytical health care, in accord with the principles of Chinese medicine.
At the International Institute of Medical Qigong (IIMQ), medical qigong is a complete system of energetic medicine that recognizes the root cause of symptoms or disease, and treats the client as a whole. The goal of medical qigong is to restore the natural flow of energy in the body, and to correct its bio-energetic imbalances and blockages. Medical qigong is the oldest form of the four main branches of Chinese medicine.
Practiced as an excellent adjunct to Western medicine, Chinese medical qigong may successfully treat conditions which Western medicine finds resistant to treatment, or conditions with ambiguous causes. These causes accumulate throughout our lifetime from poor diet, sedentary or excessive lifestyle, injuries, surgery, toxic influences, suppression of emotions, and aging.
Both medical qigong energetic therapy and prescribed qigong exercises and meditations, done correctly, may restore the body’s health. Chinese medicine tells us that stress and pain, hormone imbalances, and emotional imbalances, may be regulated and released. This traditional experience says that the internal organs, the nervous system and the immune system can also be harmonized and regulated with medical qigong.
The body's energy is in continuous interaction with external forces, surrounded and penetrated by qi as electromagnetic currents, which affect internal and external organ functions. Internally, because qi is fundamental to all of the particles, spaces, and systems of the body, invigorating and experiencing the body's qi can deeply affect and strengthen whole systems of body, mind, emotions, health, and quality of life. This is the pivotal value of qigong for most conditions, the reason qigong has the potential to benefit any human challenge.
Utilizing medical qigong, pain and stress may be relieved and hormones regulated. Deep-seated emotions, considered in Chinese medicine to be a major root cause of illness, may be purged and released. Releasing deep-seated emotions strengthens the body and regulates the internal organs, the nervous system and the immune system.
Self-healing is a core expression of medical qigong care. It is the practitioners' goal to inspire clients and students to assume a deep responsibility for their own care and lifestyle.
