Sitting MeditationSitting meditation is taught in a secular format at Oregon Medical Qigong to balance the power and direct emotional and energetic intensity of the IIMQ curriculum. Without a ground of "non-being" - self-acceptance, letting go, and tenderness for oneself and others, direct work with energy may heighten and intensify personal struggle and neurosis, and actually make us worse. Because we must "heal the healer" at all levels, training in the recognition and emptying out of fixation on the aquired mind of "me" and commitment to virtue, clarity, and compassion is an absoulutely essential basis of internal energy training. It is traditionally said that in the absence of "me", one's prenatal, original nature emerges, and the natural arising of compassion is spontaneous and vast. This is a secular presentation of sitting by an authorized meditation instructor with 30 years of Tibetan Buddhist sitting practice.
The Five CoursesThis first IIMQ course introduces the student to medical qigong exercises for self-healing of body, emotions, mind, and spirit. In later coursework, for those who have earned formal authorization to treat others in the IIMQ curriculum, proficiency in the use of the exercises for self-healing taught in the first course lays the ground for the ability to offer them as prescriptions for clients. (more)
The second course offers opportunities to strengthen the body's protective energy field (Wei Qi), and learn methods to avoid absorbing toxic qi in a clinical environment. We will work directly with energetic perception and emission, and the basic IIMQ medical qigong treatment protocols for treating clients will be taught. (more)
The third course introduces students to advanced theories of energy purgation, tonification, regulation and cultivation, as well as exercises and meditations used as homework prescriptions in the Medical Qigong Clinic. (more)
In the fourth course the medical qigong students will be introduced to advanced theories and clinical modalities of internal organ treatment. (more)
In the fifth course, written, oral, and practical examinations plus clinical competencies are included. Successful completion of the examinations will enable the student to qualify for the more advanced 500-hour Medical Qigong Therapist (MQT) program.
